The band’s history goes back over 30 years to its formation in 1972 as the Silver Wings Band. Musical employees of British European Airways looking for relaxation when off duty fund raised to buy instruments and were fortunate enough to come into possession of the music library of the Women’s Royal Air Force.

During their first year they undertook 16 concerts in the local community. Soon after in 1974 came their first overseas visit to Oslo and the formation of a training band for youngsters supported by veteran players.

British Airways Band

Following the merger of British European Airways and British Overseas Airways Corporation in 1978 to form British Airways the band became known as The British Airways Band.

1995 was a special year for The British Airways Band when it was invited to play at a Royal Garden Party in the presence of HRH The Queen, and HRH Prince Charles

In more recent times the band remains active in the local community, providing concert, and parade performances for local charities and organisations such as the Harrow branch of the Parkinson’s Disease Association, and the Anthony Nolan Trust at their Heathrow Midnight 10 kilometre run.

Famous venues for performances include Lord’s cricket ground for an England international test match against Australia, prestigious dinners at the Mansion House in London and marching down The Mall to perform at Horse Guards Parade.
